Sick of red tape, retired DIG ends life

RL Borana, 67 could not get the mutation of his land done

Indore: RL Borana, 67, who had retired as DIG in MP Police in 2011 committed suicide by hanging at a park across the road from his home in Scheme Number 114, Sant Nagar here on Friday. In his suicide note, Borana wrote that despite his best efforts, he could not get the mutation (transfer of title in revenue records) of a piece of land bought by him in Bhopal done.

He lived alone on the ground floor of his home while his younger son, daughter and son-in-law lived on the second floor. His wife and elder son lived separately from him.

Morning walk

He left his home at around 5.30 am, saying that he was going for a morning walk. At around 7.30 am, passers-by found his body hanging from a tree on the premises of the Maharana Pratap Garden, across the road from his house.

The police seized a suicide note in which Borana mentioned that besides cervical pain, he was very depressed as he could not get the mutation of his land done. “I thought that as I was a senior police officer, I would be able to get it done in a jiffy. But that did not happen,” he said.

Depressed

His family members told police that Borana was trying to get the mutation done for several years but every time, some or the other objection was raised by the officials concerned. “He was vert depressed due to this,” his kin said.

The suicide note also said that he was ending his life of his own accord and that no one in his family was responsible for it.
