Bhopal: A day after the director of a Bhopal-based private hostel for speech and hearing impaired girls was arrested on charge of rape and molestation, the statement of the rape survivor was recorded in front of a court in Dhar on Friday.
Sources said the 20-year-old survivor, who is a tribal, confirmed the incident and told the court through her interpreter that she was raped by the accused Ashwani Sharma. She also wrote the name of the accused on a paper and showed it to the court.
Meanwhile, Sharma was produced in a court in Bhopal and remanded to police custody till Monday. Superintendent of police (SP), south, Rahul Lodha said that the accused is in custody. Police will also try to trace 18 more girls, who had stayed in the hostel since 2016, to record their statements.
SIT to probe cases
- Madhya Pradesh police has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the cases against Sharma.
- ‘Police have constituted a SIT headed by SP RK Lodha to investigate the matter. The two cases were registered at zero in Dhar and Indore and sent to Bhopal,’ Bhopal inspector general of police Jaideep Prasad said.
