Ranchi: Two children along with five other members were found dead on Monday in a rented house on the outskirts of Jharkhand’s Ranchi, as per reports.
“The bodies are being sent for postmortem. The exact cause of their death would be clear only after the autopsy,” Ranchi’s SP Anish Gupta was quoted as saying by HT.
The deceased individuals were identified as Shashi Kumar Jha, 65, a retired railway employee, his wife Gayatri Devi, 60, along with their sons Deepak Jha, 40, and Rupesh Jha, 39.
Deepak’s wife Soni Jha, 38, and their children one-year-old son Jagu and six-year-old daughter Drishti were also found dead. Rupesh was unmarried.
For investigation, top senior officials along with a forensic team were assigned to single-storey house in Arsande area under Kanke police station.
Preliminary investigation states that the family had occupied four rooms, when the family moved into the house in January this year.
The body of one of two sons were found hanging from the ceiling while the other five bodies were discovered, draped in a blanket on two joint mattresses in one room. The second son was found hanging near the bed in the adjacent room. Police said two upturned wooden stools were also found in the rooms.
As per the Amol V Homkar, the Deputy inspector general of Ranchi Range, two suicide notes– one of 15 pages and the other of two pages—were recovered from the spot. He refused to share the details of the notes.
Homkar added that the initial observations suggest that the brothers had hanged themselves after killing the other five family members while stating that others angles are also being investigated.
Several reports, on the account of neighbours, state that the family had a taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh and Deepak’s father used to talk about the financial crisis in the family on a frequent basis.
The bodies were found after the child of another tenant on the same floor entered the house, which was unlocked, to call Drishti, whose school van had come at around 8:45 am.
