New J&K Deputy Chief Minister says, Kathua rape ‘a minor incident’

Earlier this month, the incident had sparked a nationwide outcry following the release of details in the case by the police.

New Delhi: Newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Kavinder Gupta on Monday has made a controversial statement, by calling the Kathua rape “a minor incident”, hours after taking oath.

Earlier this month, the incident had sparked a nationwide outcry following the release of details in the case by the police.

In a video tweeted by Congress leader Salman Nizami, Gupta said, “The Kathua incident is a minor one and shouldn’t be given much importance.”

However, he clarified his statements later by saying,“The Supreme Court is yet to give its verdict on the case. There is no point in discussing the topic over and over again. I said there are a lot of similar cases and this particular one should not be exaggerated.”
