Kanwariyas spread terror: Is it time to get worried about our future?

A group of kanwariyas vandalised a police vehicle in Bulandshahr on August 7. On the same day, another group of kanwariyas vandalised a car in west Delhi's Moti Nagar area.

New Delhi: After two back-to-back instances of kanwariyas vandalising cars and growing lynching incidents in the nation have come to fore, the questions arise once again – Is there no fear of law? Are we really heading towards lynchistan?

“If there’s one thing that worries me about the future, it is dictatorship by mobs…Not too long from now, we will have the largest population in the world & our Demographic Dividend has a flip side that is Disastrous. Quelling these mobs has to be non-negotiable..,” tweeted Mahindra Group’s executive chairman Anand Mahindra.

A group of kanwariyas vandalised a police vehicle in Bulandshahr on August 7. According to reports, the kanwariyas took to vandalism after an altercation with the locals in Bulandshahr. Reports say the police personnel in the vehicle had to run to save themselves and were even chased by the kanwariyas.

This incident happened on the same day when another group of kanwariyas vandalised a car in Delhi’s Moti Nagar area. The incident happened after a car brushed past them while driving. The kanwariyas gathered in large numbers and vandalised the car even as the couple was inside the vehicle.

What’s shocking is that in both the incidents, the presence of police officers did not deter the kanwariyas from taking law into their hands. Infact, in UP, the cops were even chased by the kanwariyas.

Is Mahindra’s statement true and should we actually be worried about our future being dictated by lynch mobs?
