Patna: Due a mistake by Bihar School Education Board, a student  lost one precious year. Later, the error was rectified. The student, Saurabh, has been awarded Rs 1 lakh compensation by Patna High Court.

Was declared unsuccessful

The issue relates to year 2017 Inter examination. The result was announced last year on May 23. Saurabh had chosen English as an optional subject. He got only 32 marks. He applied for scrutiny. After scrutiny his marks were reduced to  2 from the earlier 32 and he was declared unsuccessful.

Mental shock

This was a big shock for Saurabh. He regretted his decision to apply for scrutiny. But he was sure that he had not performed so badly in the examination. Finally, he sought to see his answer sheet under RTI. Ultimately, the Board accepted its fault and he was awarded 32 marks and declared successful. But one year was wasted in all this.

Compensation awarded

Saurabh sought compensation for the loss of year. Patna High Court has ordered the Bihar Board to provide Rs 1 lakh compensation to Saurabh. The court dismissed the arguments of the Board’s lawyer that it was only a clerical mistake and ruled Saurabh fully deserved compensation.
