Umaria/Bhopal: Addiction of taking selfies cost a police constable dear who ventured into courtroom of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Umaria district to take selfies sitting on the CJM’s chair. The police constable was booked and also arrested by the police. However, he was later released on bail. The incident took place, on Saturday, at district and sessions court of Umaria. The constable was identified as Ram Avtar Rawat, who is posted at Police Training School (PTS) in Umaria.
Police sources said that Rawat was in inebriated condition when he was detained. Sources said that Rawat suffers from addiction to click selfies and thus he seems to have planned to go to the court to click his own pictures. “We checked his mobile phones and found that about 90% photos saved in his mobile are selfie. It seems that Rawat is fond of taking selfies. He also revealed that he wanted to upload the selfie on his social media pages to impersonate himself as a powerful man,” said a senior police officer.
Town inspector of Kotwali police station, Umaria, RB Soni said that the case has been registered under section 449 of IPC. “As court officials didn’t file complaint of misbehaviour or abusing against the accused, we have registered a case of trespass. The accused was granted bail and we have informed PTS about his conduct,” Soni told DB Post over phone.
Likely to get suspended
Police sources said that PTS administration has ordered a probe to establish how Rawat reached the district court building without informing the PTS administration. He is likely to be get suspended, sources said.
The junior cop was allegedly in an inebriated condition when he was detained.
How it happened
Sources said that the constable reached the court premises at about 9.30am. He directly entered the courtroom of CJM and sat on the judge’s chair. As CJM was on leave, only few of his staff members were present in the courtroom. Subsequently, he started taking selfies using his mobile phone. When one of the staff members objected and asked Rawat to immediately come down from the chair, he lost his temper and began abusing him. The drama went on for more than half-an-hour. Later, police was called for. A team of Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and accused was taken to the police station.
