World Cup 2018: Despite Croatia’s loss, President Kolinda lauded for being a true fan

The first-ever woman president of Croatia showed charisma that left a lasting impression

France on Sunday handed a 4-2 defeat to Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2018, thereby clinching its second World Cup title.

The Croatian side put up a good fight but could not usurp the French squad, which was leading with a score of 2-1 at halftime as well.

Although Croatia lost in the ultimate clash, the country’s president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has become the social media sensation as a result of her off-field grace.

It all began during round 16 match between Croatia and Denmark, wherein she chose to watch the match from the stands instead of VIP box. Later on, she said that wanted to cheer her national team like a football fan.

BRAAAAAAAVVVVOOOOOOOVAAAAAATREEEEEEENIIIII!!!!🔥🔥🔥"S ponosom narodu svom, ljubi grb na dresu tom,na Jadranu i Savi, na Dunavu i Dravi, nek' se slavi cijeli dan i noć!" ❤️🇭🇷🏆⚽️

I wanted to showcase that I am a football fan, like everyone else; I wanted to support the team among other fans in the stands. I put on a shirt with national symbols, whereas the dress code in the VIP zone, which usually presupposes long gowns, wouldn’t have permitted such an outfit.

Ahead of the quarterfinals, President Kolinda apparently travelled along with fellow Croatian football fans from Zagreb in economy class.

Her group selfies during the WC trip became the talking point on the internet.

Following her incredible run as a fan at the 2018 FIFA WC, she didn’t cease to amaze everybody in the finals.

She congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron when his team took the lead.

At the end of match, she walked hand-in-hand with her French counterpart.

Then came the most heart-warming moment of the match when she wiped the tears of the Croatian star Modric.

To top it all, she stepped out into the rain to stand by her team when they needed it the most.

While fans might have been upset with Croatia’s win, Kolinda’s dignity for sure was the saving grace.
