The rape, which brought back memories of December 16 Delhi gangrape, sparked widespread protests, political unrest and demands for the death penalty for the two accused.

Indore: After the Mandsaur district administration deposited Rs 5 lakh in the bank account of the father of the eight-year-old girl, who was brutally gangraped on June 26 in the city, he said that he wants justice not money.

The rape, which brought back memories of December 16 Delhi gangrape, sparked widespread protests, political unrest and demands for the death penalty for the two accused. The girl, who was admitted to MY Hospital in Indore in critical condition, is out of danger now.

The girl’s father said that he doesn’t want financial compensation but wants the legal due process to take place as quickly as possible so that the two rape accused can be sentenced to death.

Mandsaur collector OP Shrivastav said that the funds were transferred on Saturday from the CM Swechhanudan Yojana, a state government discretionary fund.

“On the evening of June 26, when the girl was waiting for her family members to take her back home, Irfan, the prime accused, abducted her. He took her to the bus stand area and allegedly raped her in the bushes quite close to the Laxman Darwaja,” Manoj Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Mandsaur, told Firstpost. The accused allegedly lured the girl with laddoos, and later took her to the deserted crime scene.

‘She will be out of the ICU soon’

MY Hospital Superintendent Dr VS Pal said that the doctors are satisfied with her progress. Dr Ravi Ramadwar, a paediatric surgeon who flew in from Mumbai said that the girl’s condition is improving and she should be out of the ICU within a week. A psychiatrist is also helping the girl deal with shock and trauma. Dr Sharad Thora, Dean of MGM Medical College, said that the three doctors have provided their services for free.

Won’t rest until rape accused hanged: BJP

BJP’s National Spokesperson and former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain visited the girl in the hospital on Sunday. He said that she is the entire country’s daughter and all arrangements for her treatment will be made. He said that the gangrape case will be heard in a fast-track court and that the party and the state government will not be able to rest until the rape accused are hanged.

Congress says police probe not going in the direct direction

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has alleged that the police investigation in the case is not moving forward in the right direction and that it should be taken over by the CBI. Scindia said that half of the state’s population – women – are unsafe and cases of brutal crimes against them are rampant across the state. He added that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is only making announcements and holding meetings.

Accused’s mother seeks CBI probe

The mother of Asif, the second accused arrested in the rape case along with main accused Irfan, also demanded a CBI probe, saying, “I am confident that Asif is innocent. A CBI investigation should be carried out. If he is found guilty, he should be given the most severe punishment.” Asif’s mother said that her son is being framed as an accused in the rape case as he had only gone to a shop with Irfan (his friend) to buy a phone.
