Aadhaar numbers of 30K children at shelter homes added to database

The portal will aid coordination between child homes, police departments and state governments.

New Delhi: Aadhaar cards of 30,835 children living in child care institutions (CCIs) have been linked to the Track Child portal, in a bid to bolster the information base on the number of children under institutional care amid reports of children going missing from shelter homes, an official said.

Track Child functions as a central database of all those children who have gone missing in different parts of the country.

The portal will aid coordination between child homes, police departments and state governments. There are a total of 261,566 children living in over 9000 CCIs across the country, according to a women and child development department official.

Now, a sexual assault case in A’bad orphanage

Two girls of a government-aided orphanage run by a trust in Ahmedabad accused an office bearer of sexual assault, while three others complained they were beaten by the guard, CNN-News18 reported on Saturday.
The revelations were made when a team carried out surprise raids at orphanages and shelter homes to check for irregularities.
After the raid, all the 18 girls of the orphanage were shifted to a government-run child protection home, the report said.
